zieNu base shows you how much electricity is being used in and around your house at this moment. It displays the electricity usage in WATT, the international standard unit of power.

Children have a lot of fun with the zieNu base. At first most children have no clue what that mysterious number is about. They can see the number goes up if they turn things on and it will go down again if they turn things off.

In general 1 watt continues usage costs a European consumer about 2 euro per year. If you can get the zieNu number down with 50 watt, you save about a 100 euro's a year.

The trick or humor of zieNu has to do with awareness and calculation. Some zieNu customers found out their freezer was using double the amount of electricity compared to a new one. Buying a new freezer was a direct saving of 60 to 80 euro's per year.

Another customer discovered his central heating pump was using 100 watt constantly. Replacement meant a saving of about 100 euro annually.

It takes some time and effort to become more aware of your electricty usage and figure out where you can save.

Press release

The Hague, March 16, 2010 - Member of Parlement Diederik Samsom accepts a zieNu remote power monitor, the latest product of oohisee BV.  The zieNu remote, a wireless display, shows exactly how much electricity (watt) a household consumes.

With this simple information consumers are encouraged to save on their electricity usage. By using the first model, the zieNu Base, Diederik Samsom discovered that his central heating pump consumed a lot of power. Replacement with a new item resulted in a long term significant saving. "That is precisely the idea of zieNu" said Moritz Kooistra, director of oohisee, "Give people insight into their energy consumption and then the savings will follow."

Diederik Samsom, "The Base zieNu is placed right next to the electric meter and therefore you see it less compare to this wireless display which can be placed anywhere."

oohisee recognises Mr. Samsom, a prominent representative for a sustainable society, as ambassador of choice for zieNu concept.
"An important part of saving energy is knowing how much energy we use at this very moment".
